WooCommerce to Shopify Migration: A Practical Checklist

·7 min read

Most failed migrations don't fail because of Shopify. They fail because of what didn't get planned for on the way out of the old platform. Before touching Shopify, export and audit your full WooCommerce catalog: products, variants, metadata, customer records, and order history.

URL structure is the next priority. Map every existing product, collection, and blog URL to its Shopify equivalent, and set up 301 redirects for anything that changes. Skipping this step is the most common reason migrated stores lose search rankings.

Integrations are the quiet risk. List every plugin currently doing real work (subscriptions, reviews, loyalty, ERP sync) and confirm a Shopify-compatible replacement before cutover, not after.

Finally, run the new store in staging against real order scenarios: discount codes, multiple shipping zones, tax edge cases. Launch during a low-traffic window with DNS changes prepared in advance, and monitor closely for the first 48 hours.
